Super summer holiday activities keep boredom at bay

Free fun this summer
A summer of fun is guaranteed for children and young people in Aylesbury Vale with a host of holiday events planned, starting from 20 July.
Aylesbury Vale District Council has organised sporting activities including basketball, cricket, cycling and fishing as well as arts and crafts workshops where youngsters can learn cartoon drawing skills and create pieces of artwork using scrap materials.
There are also dance, drama, magic, model animation and stunt workshops being held and a youth theatre workshop where 10 to 18-year-olds will be asked to create and perform in a production of J RR Tolkien’s classic novel The Hobbit.
The council’s mobile play teams will be visiting 45 villages across the Vale, bringing bouncy castles, giant games and crafts to recreation grounds and sports fields. Sessions are for children up to the age of 11 and will take place either in the morning (10am to 12.30pm) or afternoon (2pm to 4.30pm).
For young people, the TUFFS programme (Turn Up for Free Sport) will be visiting villages, while Free Fun Fridays will provide arts and sports activities in local parks. And don’t miss the free Street Games Festival in Aylesbury’s Vale Park on 25 July.
To celebrate National Play Day, the council’s popular annual free event ‘Play in the Park’ returns to Aylesbury on 5 August. This year it will be in Bedegrove Park, due to improvement works taking place in Vale Park.
The park will be filled with a range of activities, including play equipment, inflatables, circus skills, sports, and a drumming workshop. There will be something for everyone, from tiny tots to teenagers, to enjoy.
There’s still time to book places on the council’s popular summer playschemes, which are filled with more activities and entertainment than ever before. The playschemes run from Monday to Friday at the Jonathan Page Playcentre and Elmhurst Children’s Centre – both in Aylesbury.
The council’s new, free SMS text alert service is an easy way of accessing information about the summer holiday activity programme. Young people can register for information about the activities taking place while adults can subscribe to receive information about playschemes for their children.
