The majority of households (excluding the brown bin trial areas) are provided with:

  • A wheeled bin for rubbish (collected weekly)
  • 1 recycling basket for plastic and cans (collected fortnightly)
  • 1 recycling basket for paper (collected fortnightly)
  • 1 recycling box for glass (collected every 4 weeks)

Your bin and recycling baskets/boxes are free of charge, and while you live at your address they are your responsibility. When you move house please leave the refuse and recycling containers behind. If there are five people or more living in your home full time you can have a larger bin, or an extra bin for very large households. Email us on the contact details below to request a larger bin.

Collection points

To get your refuse and recycling taken away put them at the edge of your property, near the road where the dustbin lorry usually comes along, by 6.30am on your collection day. To check your collection day click here.
Please note: If your entire road has not recieved a collection. Please leave it one day before reporting a missed collection and leave your bins, baskets or boxes on the boundary of your property. If we have not been able to collect your refuse or recycling on your usual day we will endeavour to return the following morning.

Do you need help putting out your wheeled bin, recycling baskets and glass box?

We can help you if you are unable to put out your wheeled bin, glass box or recycling baskets yourself. If you have a disability and you want to find out if we can help you contact us by email contractservices@aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk or call us on 01296 585510

Reduce your waste and recycle more

Your green wheeled bin, or black sack, is for day-to-day rubbish, including disposable nappies and anything that cannot be recycled or composted. Please do not include hot ashes, rubble, heavy items, solvents, chemicals, clinical waste or hypodermic needles. The contents of your refuse bin are sent to landfill so please try to reduce the amount of waste you produce.

Recycling

Households can use the kerbside collection to recycle paper, plastic food packaging, plastic bottles, food and drinks cans and glass bottles and jars. Click here to download a detailed list of what can and cannot be placed in your recycling baskets.

Garden waste

Garden waste will only be collected if it is in a green bag that has been purchased from the council. Green bags are available from district and some parish council offices at a cost of 45p for two. We will not collect garden waste in your bin, or any other bin or sack, other than the special bags purchased from us. Try where possible to compost. Follow this link for more information on composting

Bulky waste

Bulky items, such as furniture, electrical equipment, fridges, and freezers, must be collected separately. We can take up to 6 items for £27.20. This service is free if you receive a Pension Credit Guarantee. Follow the link here to request a bulky waste collection.

Village bulk refuse collections

AVDC run a free bulk refuse collection for villages across Aylesbury Vale. A refuse truck travels from village to village on pre-set days, spending around 3 hours in each village. Bulk refuse items can be disposed of free of charge, but no hazardous wastes such as asbestos and oils are allowed. Details of the visiting schedule can be downloaded below.

Household waste and recycling centres

Alternatively larger items can be taken to your local household waste site. Follow the link below for details of your local household waste tip.  Bucks County Council operate all the household waste and recycling centres in Buckinghamshire. There are currently three sites in Aylesbury vale.

  • College Road North, Aston Clinton
  • Raban's Close, Raban's Lane, Aylesbury
  • Yonder Slade, Buckingham Industrial Park, Buckingham

The County Council has brought in new measures to prevent trade waste being taken to their household waste sites (usually known as the tip or dump). For the majority of householders, in a normal car, MPV or 4x4 taking normal garden or household waste in bags there will be no change, however, for some DIY waste you may need a permit.

Please check with the County Council on 01296 382307 as you may need a permit. Or visit their website on the link below.

Clinical waste

If you have clinical waste that you need to dispose of please do not put it in your household waste. Syringes and items of that nature need to be disposed of very carefully. If you want us to collect clinical waste from your property you need to ask your doctor or nurse to make this request on your behalf. We only collect clinical waste from residential properties.

Just moved here?

If you have just moved into a house on a new development you may initially be provided with black bag refuse collections until the development is complete. We will then provide bins and recycling containers. Our refuse and recycling collection is part of our commitment to reducing the amount of waste that is tipped into landfill sites. It is a central part of the SAVE campaign - Support Aylesbury Vale's Environment.

What happens at Bank Holidays?

Refuse and recycling collection days change over bank holiday periods. We will usually display changes to normal collections via a link on our home page.
